We're At War

It's sad, because we've been here for so long

We're at War...
It's almost like saying we're at the movies, only the violence
that we're seeing is not on the "Big screen", it's on our streets.

We're at War...
In our homes, in our churches, in our schools, and at our jobs.
We don't talk to each other, We don't respect each other,
We don't trust each other. Tell me, how can we love each other?

We're at War...
Each time we turn on the television, everything we see, John shot
Sally, Cindy is missing, Kenny was caught selling drugs,
and a Baby was found on the side of the road.

We're at War...
Our heroes are falling, one has been accused of rape, another of
child molestation and still another has killed his wife,
could it be that they are not heroes at all.. God Help Us.

We're at War...
Even our Doctors can no longer be trusted, why just the other day
one was busted. Our Teachers are not teaching, they're too busy reaching.
Under-paid and under-educated.
Still all of this has been regulated

We're at War...
We can't depend on our leaders, heck some we don't even choose.
Where are they leading us?
Do we know?
Do we even care?
Sometimes I think I 'm breathing a different air,
just because I do care.

We're at War...
Our Pastors are preaching, but that's all. They talk a good game,
do this,
Oh no, don't do that, Then when we turn our backs... there's
Pastor Will
taking money from the church
Nice car Pastor Will. See you on Sunday.

We're at War...
With our bodies, tattoos, piercing, stapling, enlarging things we shouldn't,
and all because we want to appear better than we feel.
Is any of it for real?

We're at War...
On our own land
how can we go somewhere else and take a stand?
